We had the good fortune of connecting with Stephanie High and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Stephanie, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started working for a large, international company doing data-entry when I was 18yo while going to university on nights and weekends. I was accustomed to keeping my schedule full and busy. Always trying to learn something new and work my way up the corporate ladder, which I did pretty well. It was ingrained in me at a young age that you work hard for your money and you keep loyal to a stable job, such a boomer mentality.
People who have experienced compounded or complex trauma tend to endure hardship much longer than they should. This can translate into deep burnout, which is exactly what happened to me. Once I realized that in a large, traditional corporation your loyalty to a company is not an indication of a company’s loyalty to you, it was a game changer and I left working for the corporate world.
In the corporate environment, I would go to the end of the world to make a project work and be successful, but that was never appreciated. I started my own business because I valued the trifecta of loyalty, hard work and appreciation. Through my own business, my goal is to make sure my clients get the best out of me and that I can stimulate the best out in them to reach their goals.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
With a passion for discovering stories, I’m a full-stack marketing consultant (she wears many hats). Seasoned at working with engineers, scientists, designers, and developers on complex technology, with an expertise in being able to take convoluted information and turning it into marketable experiences.
I built a career on delivering business transformations, from streamlining marketing practices and technology platforms to innovative, customer-driven product launches, whether you have multi-million dollar budgets or only a few hundred dollars. Having lived and worked around the world for most of my adult life, I also bring an added layer of cultural sensitivity and creative insights to the table.
Recently, I went back to school expanding my skills, to obtain my Master of Arts in Performance Psychology and become a Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CPMC). In the process, I have also become a Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) on my quest to offer a science-based, holistic practice. There is always more to learn and explore.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Since some my closest friends live in different countries, a road trip up the coast to Hearst Castle is unusually on the itinerary. Stopping along the way to see the beach or check out a famous spot here and there.
In San Diego, the best way to see the city is from the top of a mountain. Whether it’s a trip to Julian with a stop into a local farm-to-table restaurant and some antique shopping or a quick run up Cowles Mountain.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shout out to my university psychology team. While working on my masters in performance psychology they have helped me redefine my passion and purpose.
